Shanda Renee Sharer was born on the edge. Born to a heroin addicted mother and an absent father, she grew up in and around the foster care system. By the time she was 18, she had been kicked out of six schools and had spent time in jail for theft.
But it was in 1999 when Sharer met Jeffrey Dahmer. The then 24-year-old Dahmer had just been released from prison after serving a 15-year sentence for murdering 17 men and boys. Dahmer lured Sharer into his home with the offer of a job as a housekeeper.
Dahmer quickly became obsessed with Sharer and began subjecting her to macabre sex rituals, including mutilating her body with knife cuts and burns. Dahmer even took photos of these atrocities, which he would use to torture and humiliate Sharer.
Eventually, Dahmer killed Sharer by strangulation with a bath towel and disposed of her body in the Milwaukee River. Her remains were only discovered in 2008 after heavy rains caused the river to flood.
